Award-winning financial journalist and bestselling author Andrew Ross Sorkin will anchor the upcoming 2026 South Dakota Land and Lending Conference. South Dakota State University’s Ness School of Management and Economics is presenting the annual conference Oct. 15 at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls.

Decades of research undertaken by South Dakota State University Distinguished Professor Kasiviswanathan “Muthu” Muthukumarappan earned him lifetime achievement awards from two professional organizations this summer. Muthu was honored by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) as a fellow at its meeting in Chicago July 11, and on July 14 he was in Indianapolis to be honored by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers at its international meeting.

Calling his current position “an opportunity I just couldn’t turn down,” Alan Sparkman has taken the reins of the young and growing concrete industry management program at South Dakota State University. This is the sixth year for the program, which is housed in the Department of Construction and Concrete Industry Management. He replaces Tim Hostettler, who was the program’s first director. The South Dakota Board of Regents gave final approval for the program in May 2021 with entry-level classes offered that fall.
