Farm to Finish Line and Breakfast on the Farm Event
The College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences is looking to connect the Brookings area with where their food comes from through a new, two-part event: Farm to Finish Line and Breakfast on the Farm. All are welcome to join for the inaugural Farm to Finish Line and Breakfast on the Farm.
Event Schedule
Friday, Sept. 25
- 5:30-7 p.m. – Farm to Finish Line race registration and packet pickup at the SDSU Ruminant Nutrition Center (3727 Medary Ave., Brookings, SD 57006)
Saturday, Sept. 26
- 7-7:45 a.m. – Farm to Finish Line race registration and packet pickup at SDSU Ruminant Nutrition Center
- 8 a.m. – Farm to Finish Line begins with a cowbell start
- 9:30 a.m.-noon – Breakfast on the Farm event at the SDSU Ruminant Nutrition Center
Breakfast on the Farm
Taking place immediately after the race, the college invites all community members to a free Breakfast on the Farm! This part of the event will feature booths with interactive, farming-related activities for kids ages 3-12 and for kids at heart. Activities include interacting with farm animals, planting seeds, making butter and other fun, educational experiences.
Farm to Finish Line Race Information
Registration
- Early-bird registration (July 31-Extended to Sept. 12): $25
- Regular registration (Sept. 13-26): $35
- Group registration (register 10 participants for the price of eight, available July 31-Extended to Sept. 12): $200
All participants who register before Sept. 14 will receive a T-shirt. Participants who register after Sept. 14 may receive a T-shirt, depending on size availability. All participants will receive a college drawstring bag, day pass to the Miller Wellness Center and other sponsor-related goodies.
Route
A cowbell start will kick off the race at the SDSU Ruminant Nutrition Center at 8 a.m. The 3.9-mile route will follow grass paths to the SDSU Dairy Research, Education and Training Facility where runners (or walkers!) will go through the dairy barn. The route then travels through pastures surrounded by various crop fields and native plant species and includes a trip by the SDSU Feed Mill. The race will end back where it started at the Ruminant Nutrition Center. A defined course map will be made available to all registered participants before the race.
Please note: No part of the race will take place on public roadways. Most of it will be on grass. There are some spots on the course that will have uneven footing.
Awards
All participants will receive a blue finisher’s ribbon! The awards presentation will begin around 9:15 a.m. at the Ruminant Nutrition Center. The top two men and women finishers in the following categories will receive champion ribbons. An overall Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion will also be awarded.

Check-in
Race check-in and T-shirt and packet pickup will be available Friday, Sept. 25, from 5:30-7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 26, from 7-7:45 a.m. at the SDSU Ruminant Nutrition Center (3727 Medary Ave., Brookings, SD 57006). Walk-in registrations will be allowed, but a T-shirt is not guaranteed.
