Emily Wood Toronto, professor of music, will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, in Founders Recital Hall at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center on the South Dakota State University campus.

Toronto, a celebrated mezzo-soprano and director of SDSU’s opera workshop, will be accompanied on the piano by SDSU alumnus Carson Covey. Michael Walsh, professor of clarinet, will also perform.

The recital, titled “Hearts on Fire,” will include Louis Spohr’s Six German Songs, op. 103, and four art songs by British composer Herbert Howells. The program will also feature Edvard Grieg’s “Hjertets Melodier” (Heart Songs), three art songs by Brazilian composer Alberto Nepomuceno and the premiere of four art songs by Brazilian composer Helza de Cordoville Camêu.

The recital is free, and the public is invited to attend.
