Military Tuition Assistance (TA)

Students must receive approval from their Education Services Officer (ESO), military counselor, or education office BEFORE enrolling in classes using Tuition Assistance.

What is Tuition Assistance?

Military Tuition Assistance (TA) is a benefit provided by the U.S. Armed Forces to help eligible service members pay for college courses and degree programs.

Who May Be Eligible?

  • Active Duty Service Members
  • Army National Guard Members
  • Air National Guard Members
  • Reserve Component Members
  • Other personnel approved by their military branch
6 Steps to Use TA at SDSU
  1. Meet with your ESO or education counselor.
  2. Develop your academic plan.
  3. Request TA through your military portal.
  4. Receive TA approval.
  5. Submit approval to SDSU Veterans Services & Engagement.
  6. Enroll and begin classes.

Additional Financial Aid

Students may also qualify for federal student aid, scholarships, grants, and other military education benefits.

Withdrawal and Return of Tuition Assistance

If a student withdraws before completing a term, SDSU may be required to return a portion of the Tuition Assistance funds to the government. Unearned TA is returned on a prorated basis through at least the first 60% of the enrollment period.
